Basically, participating restaurants offer gift certificates at a deep discount if you purchase them on this site. All you do is enter your zip code to see which restaurants in your area are participating. Most of the certificates are $5 for $10 worth of food, or $10 for $25 worth of food. Read the fine print below the price because some restaurants require a minimum purchase. This is also a great site to use if you're going out of town and want to try something new.
